The Wrong Note Rag

The Wrong Note Rag

The Wrong Note Rag ((from Wonderful Town)). By Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). Arranged by Ted Ricketts. For Concert Band (Score & Parts). Score and full set of parts.. Hal Leonard Concert Band Series. Grade 4.. Grade 4-5. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4002395).

From the Broadway show Wonderful Town comes this entertaining and witty production number from the legendary Leonard Bernstein. As the title implies, this “rag” finds its way into some curious melodic entanglements, as well as unexpected rhythmic twists and turns as only maestro Bernstein can conjure up. A delightful number for any occasion! (3:00).

  • November 14, 2007 Tuneful Toe-Tapping Tongue Twister!

Before I received the score, I listened to the sound sample and imagined there to be multiple time changes (as that is how it sounds), but was surprised to find it all in 4/4! This is testimony to Bernstein's clever writing and is a great arrangement, if perhaps...

a little short (?), but nevertheless a quirky, uplifting, tuneful, toe-tapping tongue twister of a piece that will in no uncertain terms confuse and excite your audience. A great concert opener or encore.
