Piano Trio
Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, Teil I. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Edited by Ernst-Gunter Heinemann. This edition: Urtext edition. Henle Music Folios. Book only, paperbound. 136 pages. G. Henle #HN1014. Published by G. Henle (HL.51481014).

Item Number: HL.51481014

The basis for the musical text was Henle's revised edition of Part I published in 1997 and Yo Tomita's brand new revision of Part II (Spring 2007). A detailed commentary rounds off the editions. Both parts of the Well-Tempered Clavier are also available as Henle Urtext editions with fingerings (HN14) and as study edition without fingerings (HN9014).

  • September 22, 2012 An edition worthy of this masterwork

You get what you pay for. Everything about this edition is first class. Very good paper, sewn binding that really allows the pages to open flat (other editions have 'sewn bindings' but don't open flat very well), crystal clear printing. And excellent editorial notes--appropriately relegated to appendices. But...

Bach did change his mind here and there--what are the options? Why did the editors choose the reading that appears in the main score? It's all there.
