The Three-Minute Nutcracker

By Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Orchestra (Score & Parts) - Grade 3-4
Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893). Arranged by Lloyd Conley. Music for String Orchestra.

Item Number: HL.4490795

9x12 inches.

A clever, lighthearted finish to your holiday program! With the never-ending goal to keep the concert short, here's the essence (nine themes) of the classic ballet, honed down to three minutes or less. Stage it with a big hourglass-type egg timer, or with a projected digital stopwatch and let the audience watch as your orchestra works toward the finish. For added drama, Lloyd has provided an optional accelerando (molto, if need be) in the “Trepak” finale, to bring it in under the wire. Dur: 3:00.

    Difficulty Level:
  • November 18, 2014 Challenge For Middle School Orchestra

Our 8th grade orchestra is playing this piece for out Winter Concert. Its been quite a challenge for us to play - so far we have made it to four minutes and 18 seconds. The Trepak Molto Vivace is the hardest to play. The first violins part is very fast with...

no rests in 2/4 time. The rest of the piece is easier, but the timing and the notes themselves, like in Waltz Of The Flowers, are tough to play. Lots of accidentals one after another. Overall, this is a lovely piece to hear when played by aproffesional orchestra, but for my age group it is to hard to pull off.
