This an excellent book with accurate transcriptions. The two previous reviews pointed out some errors in (a) tune names and (b) recordings on which the tunes are found. I am still searching for the correct recording from which the tune "I Can't Get Started" was transcribed as it is...

not on the CD listed in the book. Some of the tunes are harder to play than others but once you get them down and listen to Teddy playing the same tunes you can begin to feel like you are "one of the band", especially if you actually play along with Teddy Wilson!

  • August 03, 2008 Great Book! (with a big mistake)

This is a great book if you are interested in Wilson"s interpretations. There is a major mistake in the listing of the songs. The one listed as "Long ago and far away" is actually "This year's kisses". So, I hope Jamie Thom from Toronto sees this review The...

Actual interpretation of this particular transcriptions is contained in the CD entitled "With Billie in mind"

  • August 23, 2007 authentic transcriptions

The transcriptions are authentic and note-for-note as Wilson recorded them. They are rather advanced and you have to be able to stretch a tenth with your left hand to be able to play the pieces fluently. The discography at the beginning accurately lists most of the CDs/recordings...

upon which the transcriptions are based, allowing you to hear exactly how Wilson played each tune which I found to be very helpful. A couple of the pieces are not actually piano solos but tunes that Wilson performed with a trio (Body and Soul, Moonglow) The left hand accompaniment is more sparse in these pieces.....you may find yourself having to 'fill in' the spaces when playing these as solos. In addition, there are a couple of CDs cited in the discography that are actually the wrong records, for instance I'm still trying to find the correct recording for 'Long Ago and Far Away' that matches the transcription in the book.
