This is a fantastic piece for the dedicated harp player. If you like Sonny Terry and want to emulate some of his work, this would be a worthwhile addition to your Sonny collection. Tom Ball is a wicked harp player, and his ability to play clean thru even the most...

complicated licks allows the player to learn the harp as one must do: by ear. Full tab for all licks is included to help speed that learning process, however, and that has been instrumental in expediting me thru picking up a few of these tricky licks. If you're an Intermediate or dedicated learning player already and can play clean notes and maybe do a little growling, then I believe you're ready for this tutorial. Get it, you'll dig it. Nuff said.

Yes, it's true, it's a very good book and after very long hours spend on,I'm sure that now I just can not play as him! Where is the rhythm? Why there is not an entire song?

  • March 18, 2002 Tom Ball shows how its done…

In this short but packed book there are a number of licks, runs, fills, intros and phrases used by possibly the best harp player ever… Sonny Terry. The CD is vital to understanding what is being played. The book is full of chicken scratch (Harp Tab ) which helps us non...

music readers. There are some excerpts of Sonny playing and some of his songs transcribed (Tatter pie etc.). This book starts as total beginner with- row row your boat through to slow and easy licks, fast licks, tricky licks and even chugging and trills. There is even a lesson with sonny himself where he explains the famous (and impossible! – for me anyway) Whooping … Tom Ball is an accomplished player in his own right and his Sonny Terry style is a credit. A few jam tracks would have made for a 5 star rating….
