    Everett, WA
    Difficulty Level:
  • July 10, 2009 It Can Still be Played

I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of playing level. Songs are played one measure at a time; they are learned the same way. The book contains the usual few mistakes, but is fairly accurate. Since the idea is to play the song and not copy it (yeah, right...

), it is ok to infuse ones own compatible playing style into the piece. SRV, in my opinion, was the best guitarist to ever breathe air, the book gives proper credit to his music. A learning technique I found helpful was to not only break the songs down by measure, but learn the difficult solo passages (such as the turn-around in "Little Wing" right before the two 'softer' verses in the middle) by starting with Bar 12 and working backward ie, Bar 11, Bar 10..to Bar 1. Then, when one starts from Bar 1 and plays forward, you already know what's next! Challenge yourself and have fun: In Step is next!
