ISBN 0634065688. With vocal melody, lyrics and piano accompaniment. Vocal Standards, Classical and Play Along. 9x12 inches.

More great classical material for progressing vocal students, from the leading American expert in teaching the young voice. The series started with The First Book of Solos, and then, at the same difficulty level, came The First Book of Solos - Part II. The Second Book of Solos, originally released in 1993, is for singers who have taken voice a little longer and are capable of more challenges, but is still decidedly student-level material, and music that can be sung by good high school students. The new The Second Book of Solos - Part II set is at exactly the same level as The Second Book of Solos. It shares the same features: a deliberate variety of music in different styles and languages, including a few sacred selections, with over 30 songs per book. Available as books only, or in packs with two CDs of piano accompaniments recorded by Laura Ward.

    Difficulty Level:
  • December 18, 2008 A tad high for altos

This book and the accompaniment CD are very nicely done, and the selection is great. It is a little high for contralto. I can hit all the notes, but what did the notes ever do to me that I ought to be hitting them? In a large room, an alto...

could do these, but I sing at a retirement home in a relatively small room. Songs useful for the small room: Ah Love but a day – goes to E. If I "float" it, it can work. But the high note is the climax, so "floating" works against the dynamics. Avril - might work. The English is nice. The translator has figured out that you can't just translate avRIL as APril, without getTING the acCENT on the wrong sylLAble. Qui Sedes - this one is a contralto solo originally. The English translation for Richard Strauss Allerseelen is very nice. It’s too high.
