  • March 06, 2009 CD useful, no surprises

I chose this version of Op 10 & 16 because of the included CD. The recording quality of the CD varies a lot between pieces. It serves the purpose well of demonstrating the piece played essentially correctly which is what I was looking for--a lot cheaper than sitting down for...

a session with the piano teacher! The CD is not something I would want for a "listening library," however. The sheet music is fine and what I expected. I was looking for Op 16 N5. It is one of the easier pieces in the book (and one I can play reasonably well). A few are difficult and to be played fast, and therefore only for the very advanced (though they are fun to play slow and make nice "Rachmaninoff sounds"--when no else has to listen!). I've been playing off-and-on (mostly off) for 60 years, and playing almost everyday for the last 8 years. Some of the chords might be a hard stretch for some with small hands.
