The Ludlows composed by James Horner (1953-). Arranged by Carla Boardman Padron. For String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, and cello. Instrumental piece from the film Legends of the Fall. Contemporary. Set of parts. 16 pages. Duration 3 minutes. Published by Boardman Music Publishing (BD.P0001-Q1).

From the film "Legends of the Fall," this beautiful instrumental theme carries the flavor of the film's Montana scenery. The piece opens with the 19th century tune "Twilight and Mist" (no lyrics included) followed by James Horner's original themes.

Hi Jimbo, Thanks for your concerns. When I originally transcribed this piece form the full orchestra recording in 2003, there were some G-sharps that I left as G naturals in the viola that I thought sounded better. A few years later I got complaints about the lack of G...

-sharps, so I added them in (which is the version you ordered - 4 G-sharps in the viola). After additional comments about the sound, I changed them back to G-naturals. The latest printing has this correction, so anyone who orders the piece now will receive the updated, corrected version. Thanks, Carla

I needed an arrangement asap for an engagement, I was pleased to find it available at Sheetmusicplus. We played it on the gig, and found there were several mistakes in the viola part. I identified the trouble spots and fixed them on the spot while playing at the gig, which...

was the bridal party procession at a wedding. They should have proof read the parts before publishing. Other than that, the arrangement was simple but fine for the job.

We've had a few brides select this one for processionals and they really seem to love it! It's a beautiful piece and does justice to the original orchestral arrangement.

  • June 24, 2012 Quite nice if you fix the wrong chords in VLA part

This is wonderful music and glad to have a quartet arrangement. However, there are wrong chords in the viola part - F# minor is what you need! - and there is an extra measure in the VLN I part (the rests about 1/2 way through) that can make for a train...

wreck if you are sight-reading this at a gig!

I made an string quartet arr for my own and it sounds better. Viola omnipresent accompaniment is awful. Next time, try share rythmic accompaniment within viola and cello ;)
