This is the 2nd in a 4-book collection of preludes, interludes, and postludes compiled and arranged by Carlo Rossini for performance on pipe, electronic or reed organs, and with Hammond registrations included. No separate pedal notation staff is included, however many examples indicate notes for the pedals. The Liturgical Organist provides the average organist with an orderly collection of liturgical compositions for church use and for possible performance even on the smallest instrument. The compositions include works from the baroque, classical and romantic eras.

I already owned Vols. 1 and 3 of the Liturgical Organist. I like to keep a copy at each church where I play organ, so I got Vol 2. The music is great for background during quiet prayer moments or as a post-postlude. Some pieces are designated as "postludes...

." The book is divided by keys so that there are many short pieces (about one page in length) in the key of C for instance and then many more in A minor, etc. This makes it easy to transition from piece to piece. Two-staff format. Easy pedal parts. Markings include dynamics, suggested manual changes, and possible alternate ending places. You can do a I-IV-I or V7-I ending almost anywhere. Probably no need to practice any of these. The composers are well-known, but there are no "famous" compositions, no melodies that anyone will recognize -- just nice background music.
