  • December 16, 2007 Absolutely Beautiful, Amazing music

Although the music presented in this song book is very difficut at times, it is by far the most beautiful music that I have ever been privileged to sing. The arrangments are for advanced singers and advanced pianists, but if you want to play real music, this book is full...

    of it. Absolutly amazing. ...]

  • June 03, 2006 Beautiful - but difficult

This book has many of the beautiful songs you hear in the show. But I would have to say that it is very difficult if you do not have much playing expirence. The music is not only hard to figure out on the piano, but the vocals are demanding (mainly...

for the women - Clara/Margaret)I got his book for christmas, and I have been trying to learn the stuff ever since. You really understand why Guettel got his Tony. The music is altered (much like many vocal/piano books) for easier playing, but all together shows a good representation of the songs.

  • May 31, 2006 You will be disappointed...

I am a huge Guettel fan and a huge fan of The Light in the Piazza. The music is spectacular, with beautiful orchestrations and a stunning piano part. I was beyond disappointed upon purchasing this book. The piano part is "dumbed" down, including an awkard vocal line getting in the...

way of actually accomanying the vocalist. The pianist spends most of the time editing the arrangement rather than accompanying. The integrity of this music is lost within these arrangements. They didn't dumb down Myths and hymns and that is a blast to play and accompany. Sure the music is difficult, but wouldn't it be better to have it played appropriately than fumbled through with terrible fingerings and voicings so as to help a mediocre vocalist. The vocal lines make it far more difficult to play, defeating the purpose for having them there in the first place.
