The music of Leroy Anderson is in a class all by itself. His music covers a wide gamut of emotions as well as well as tones and colors that are uniquely his own. Even the titles such as BLUE TANGO, SLEIGH RIDE, THE WALTZING CAT and the deeply moving FORGOTTEN...

DREAMS as well as the humerous THE TYPEWRITER have a style and life all their own. It is wonderful that the music of Leroy Anderson is being published in this book as well as LEROY ANDERSON AT THE PIANO(which I allready own) and enjoy playing from.

Leroy Anderson is probably best known for "The Syncopated Clock", but MY favorites are his wonderful tunes used in the VERY under-appreciated musical, "Goldilocks", with book and lyrics by Jean Kerr and Walter Kerr! It opened in October 1958 (50th anniversary coming up), with Elaine Stritch, Don Ameche, and...

other big talents, doing one great song after another, some really funny, some quite poignant, all very clever. And lots of lively music. The original cast CD is a joy, as is this book, which includes ALL the songs from Goldilocks, plus six add'l numbers that were dropped from the show. There's also very interesting bio material, plus photos. A book to treasure.

  • April 02, 2008 Great collection of songs

This is a great collection of the songs of Leroy Anderson. It's especially good if you are interested in the songs from Goldilocks (Anderson's great Broadway score); all of the songs are in this book, including songs that were cut from the show.
