Jason Robert Brown, the creator of Parade and Songs for a New World, has written a distinctive new Off-Broadway musical. The Last Five Years tells the story of a failed marriage of 20-somethings: he a successful novelist, she a struggling actress. Her story is told in reverse, his conventionally moving forward. They meet in the middle at the point of their wedding. Brown's strong writing has found a solid following among musical theatre fans. Short, bittersweet and nearly perfect, Brown has come up with a winning combination of music and book. - Variety.

  • April 22, 2009 Great Music, but...

The show is great, the accompaniment is excellent and challenging, the guitar tabs are great, however, I was disappointed to see that my favorite song, "A Miracle Would Happen" was not included. Also, some songs are cut short of the accompaniment; for example, the introduction piano part of the show...

, the instrumental (piano) endings are missing at some spots, and the closing piano part are missing. Other than that, great buy!

  • March 21, 2008 Excellent book, fair service

Despite the long wait for shipping and the disappointment when I realized that one of my favorite numbers from the soundtrack (A Miracle Would Happen/When You Come Home To Me...obviously I didn't look carefully enough at the number list), the music is excellent, and fairly easily understood...

. A few of the numbers in this musical are rather difficult, ie-Shiksa Goddess, to play and sing simultaneously, but it is a great scorebook.

This book in undeniably one of the best piano/vocal books a musical fanatic can have in his/her collection. The music is challenging and innovative, but once you get the patterns in your fingers it's very rewarding. Jason Robert Brown is one of the best recent composers! While...

the book is missing some songs, most of the popular ones are in it. The only downside is that it doesn't have the piano solo from "Moving Too Fast" and it's missing "A Miracle Would Happen". While it's not in the book, you can find "See I'm Smiling" in one of the Alto Musical Anthology books...I think it's the 2nd one. Highly recommend this book!!!
