    I play traditional Canadian fiddle music and usually select tunes derived from the french and irish as they lay easier in my hand. My daughter gave me the book as a Christmas gift and I have just started getting into the tunes. The tunes are attractively printed and organized and...

    although the keys are standard (nothing tougher than an occasional Bflat or F), the notation is not simplified and the rhythm patterns are faithfully set out. This collection has a very good selection of slow airs and marches and also jigs,reels, hornpipes and strathspeys. The best part is the CD's. Without them I couldn't attempt this style properly. Christine Martin has done a wonderful job playing the tunes. Ever note is there and the pace is not too fast. Therefore I was able learn some of the rhythm patterns which on other occasions I had previously found very difficult to do with scottish music when working from the scores alone.
