    Difficulty Level:
  • December 31, 2008 Good, but not so good

The Essential Albert King is a good book about the background and signature techniques of Albert's songs. Although the description of the book suggests that tablature for many songs is included, prospective buyers should beware that the accompanying tablature for each song is abbreviated to mostly those phrases discussed...

in the text for a given song - the tablature for an entire song is not provided. If you want to work through the tablature of an entire Albert King song (any of them), this is NOT the book for you. Other AK treatments are more complete in this regard. However, if you are mostly interested in picking up some awesome licks from Albert's work to integrate into your playing and to amaze your friends with your understanding of this artist's unique background and approach to the guitar, this book will work just fine. BTW, don't forget to pump some iron first! This cat could bend a string to Toledo and back, baby! Yeoww!

Every book by Wolf Marshall is superb, the tracks are so close to his style you cannot tell its Wolf playing but rather that Albert King is teaching us his licks, the notes are perfect and the backing tracks are great to jam with and improvise, highly recommended book to...

have, thanks Wolf ! Henry Sydney
