    This book is essential. I didn't know that Dimitri Tiomkin was that great. Perfect song selection (very little "filler" in my opinion), including many little known gems composed in a wide variety of styles, perfectly arranged (including on some occasions new piano arrangements). When compared to the Broadway / Tin...

    Pan Alley grand-dukes, Hollywood composers have been treated badly by the music publishers, for reasons unclear: we have to thank Volta and Hal Leonard for this collection. At 200 pages, this book is so great one can only hope for volume two...as well as more anthologies dedicated to the Masters of Hollywood Golden Age (Herrmann, Young, Newman, Waxman etc...).
