This book has some of the best arrangements I've ever seen. Reverent and honest. The piano parts can be used as solos with a little adjustment. Simple, but can be taken to the highest levels of artistry.

This a wonderful collection of spirituals. It was recommended to me by a former director. Hogan does a wonderful job of incorporating many of the important aspects of a spiritual into a collection for a solo voice.

  • March 19, 2004 Simple but nice

Very basic chords in a no frills (or few frills) accompaniment make this collection of great music accessible to a lot of people. A couple of the vocal solos (in the high voice version) hit an upper range B flat, but creative alternatives within the chord could be arranged to...

spare pain to all. Well worth adding to the collection of soulful solos for church musicians.
