Composed by Andrew J. Boyle. Arranged by Lyrical Publishing. Celtic,Folk,World. Octavo. 7 pages. Lyrical Publishing #2881157. Published by Lyrical Publishing (A0.953935).

One of the most haunting love songs from Ireland. In Andrew J. Boyle’s interpretation the shifting temperament of the song has been given special attention – the conflict between optimism and foreboding. The text of the song, which tells of a heartsick young girl longing to be reunited with her lover, is known in Irish collections from the mid-18th century. In early versions the object of the girl’s affections was an Irish highwayman who was hanged in 1750 for pursuing his ‘trade’ on the Curragh. It has had various titles, including The Lamenting Maid and The Winter it is Past.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
