Collection and performance CD. Standard notation, chord names and introductory text (does not include words to the songs). 63 pages. Ricordi #MLR664. Published by Ricordi (HL.50485753).

ISBN 0634091115. With standard notation, chord names and introductory text (does not include words to the songs). Movies. 9x12 inches.

The great Italian film composer Ennio Morricone first came on the scene with soundracks for Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns, including A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Though his career has been primarily in Italian films, he has also composed distinctive, sophisticated scores for such American films as Once Upon a Time in America, Bugsy, Mission, In the Line of Fire and The Untouchables. This collection of 22 piano solos from 17 movies is a great introduction to Morricone's work, or a rare serving of some of the greatest movie music for the film buff. The companion CD has actual recordings from the film scores of the featured selections.

  • April 22, 2012 not feeling it

I was disappointed because it wasn't what I was expecting. I based my purchase on some of the music he did for some well known movie soundtracks that were not part of this collection. The titles were in Italian.

I was happy to obtain a piece of Morricone's music that I have wanted for some time. Obviously I knew the English title which made it a little more difficult buat last I've got it!

I bought this because of "Playing Love", the great piece that was "performed" by the character played by the amazing Tim Roth in "The Legend of 1900". The arrangement, while not exactly the same as the movie's, is beautiful and not too simplistic. A note to the other reviewers...

    - I believe that many times these arrangements include the piano part of the score but not necessarily the other parts played by the orchestra for example. Perhaps that's why it seems simplistic.

I recognise that technically what I received is the the theme from Once Upon Time in America but I had hoped it would be more expansive and include Deborah,s Theme Because DT is not included in the Ennio Morricone book,I ended up purchasing a Celine Dion vocal version...

.....I am awaiting delivery of this so I cannot appraise it satisfacion level...I suspect though that it will likely stray from the original...
