The Art of Piano Performance is a series of comic books perfect for use as humorous teaching aids and piano teachers. The comic book form has an immediate appeal to young adults and adolescents. Pianists and teachers will enjoy the "in jokes" within the illustrations and situations. All musical terms are defined when used while the illustrations, while humorous, present serious pedagogical information in a light-hearted, understandable manner. Perfect Practice Keeping the joy of making music and returning the "play" into playing the piano comes from students realizing that they can learn new works faster and perform with greater security than they ever imagined. Perfect Practice provides great motivation for pianists of all ages!

Peter Coraggio's series, hilariously illustrated by Jon J. Murakami, is easily the best pedagogical material I have encountered in a long career of teaching piano. I cannot fault a single item in the five books. Because they look like comic books, it would be easy to view them as...

mere entertainment, but textually they are sound as a rock. Because of the style of presentation, young students will actually read them for fun, but they have value even for advanced music students. I give the entire series my highest recommendation.

  • July 02, 2008 tips your teacher never told you

If you have a young artist beginning a musical instrument get this. It gives you helpful tips on how to learn the skills of music playing. If I had read this when I first started the piano I would have advanced a lot quicker and had learned a lot less...

nasty habits that I had to break later.

The comic book format may fool you to think that this book is just for kids. Not true. The information is applicable to all levels of music practice. Worth a read. It's easy and fun to follow and the advice is based on psychological studies.

  • April 05, 2004 Teachers! Recommend this to ALL students

This is a comic book with characters that are easy to relate to. You follow the learnings of a boy who doesn't always do everything right, but really wants to be a good piano player! The comic is humorous with great illustrations, "I want to read more" quality and...

most importantly concepts of practise that really do work!! I heartily recommend this comic be in the library of every teacher of piano, and be recommended to students who have been learning for about one year. I believe it will have a very positive effect on young pianists, especially boys of about 11 and 12 years of age. Great value. A 'must buy!'.
