    Difficulty Level:
  • March 14, 2008 Bluegrass beginner

I was introduced to "Blue Grass" by a friend who plays mandolin and banjo. This book and cd have been a great encouragment in practicing the classic songs and styles of this type of music. I am very satisfied and hope eventually to progress to volume II. I have had...

some lessons and have been playing the violin for about 18 months, as part of a "Life Long learning" experience. My age is 82 yrs.

    Birmingham, AL
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 12, 2007 A Great Start for Fiddlers

This is a well-planned, gently progressive fiddling method, which allows a novice player to learn simple versions of standard tunes, with added variations as their technique improves. It can be taught by rote or note-reading, according to the wishes of pupil and teacher. Works well for both kids...

and adults. For a complete beginner with no prior musical experience, expect to do a bit of preparatory work on position, bow-hold, and basic rhythms, etc. for best results. It is not like a classical method book, but rather starts right in with simple tunes that a student of any age will enjoy.
