The exercises are very appropriate and helpful in developing and improving dexterity of fingers in playing the violin. It is a fun learning book. Also helpful in improving tempo and rhythm of music. Makes it fun to "practice"....in order to be useful.

reviews first 3 positions with studies, classical works and scales. Piano accompaniment book recommended for a wonderful experience. Progresses logically and covers a lot. Better than an etude/study pieces book for covering new techniques like mentioned in the description below. (chromatics, shifting, etc)

  • 2008-04-27 00:00:00.0 my advanced students love this bk

they can't stop practicing the etudes and pieces. We include them at all recitals. I've been using this book and method with my students for 6 years and notice very quick progress right from the start. It's better than all other methods combined, especially as far as...

motivating students to keep going. I've been teaching for 30 years, so I've tried other methods and observe others that have come out recently. The pieces are superior in this book and the rest of the books in this series. Try the other books. Our recitals include pieces from all 5 ABC's of Violin books. Really great method!"

I'm an advanced violinist in high school who has found this book's solo pieces to be very useful for playing at my church during services and at my school's solo concerts. Get lots of compliments! The Etudes are intensive and fun. Improves my technique overall.
