  • July 06, 2012 Tea For Two Piano Duet

To celebrate my aunt's 90th birthday (she still plays the piano every Sunday at her church), I asked her to play a piano duet with me at our family reunion/ 90th birthday party. She agreed. Since I live 800 miles from her, I sent her a copy of this...

book of 5 duets and asked her to choose which duets she would like to play. She chose "Tea for Two". It was just the perfect choice for this occasion because we only had less than an hour to practice together. She was able to play the bottom part without any problem and I played the top part because I have a stronger touch on the piano. It went over very well...we didn't have a tip jar, but that wasn't the purpose. I hope I can play a duet on my 90th birthday (I'm only 68). It was great music for the older crowd.

My students are really enjoying playing these. The harmonic and rhythmic complexities make the pieces interesting but still very playable. The rehearsal tracks on cd are a fantastic resource - especially for those playing the bass part.
