    Difficulty Level:
  • May 15, 2008 Piazzolla's Tango Suite

Tango Suite is everything the classical guitarist could hope for. It's interesting uses of counterpoint, rhythmic intensity, and unique sense of cool make this one of the most important pieces in the guitar repertoire. Piazzolla wrote the piece in a manner that gives both guitarists significant and challenging parts...

. Tango Suite is composed in Piazzolla's idiomatic style of tango nuevo, and its harmonic language is strikingly piquant yet available to the seasoned guitarist. Although most of the piece is characterized by a driving yet improvisational rhythmic force, the slower sections provide plush harmonies combined with a melodic sense of beauty that one rarely hears. Piazzolla is a master of composing beautiful music. The recordings of the Assad Brothers and Soloduo (Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela) are notable.
