  • February 24, 2007 Suzuki for Learners of All Ages

The first time I used this product, I was five years old. This early start with Suzuki taught me to play by ear. Nine years later, I returned to Suzuki. My technique had slacked, but I appreciated Suzuki's injury prevention and tone improvement more than I would have when...

I was younger. These experiences made playing more effective, beautiful and enjoyable. That is why I would recommend Suzuki above all other methods, for both young and older learners. This method does require a lot of patience for teachers and parents as well as the student. For example, the student is required to listen to the pieces daily. Obviously, though, learning becomes easier after the correct habits form. My only concern is whether a student should learn to play by ear before learning to read music (according to Suzuki method). I don't know from experience how well this works, because I learned how to read music before.
