Published by Ginny's House of Music (S0.144657)."Surely Not Me + Thank God, Thank God , He Saved My Soul" for voice and guitar only were written by Braxton Schuffert, who was an original member of Hank Williams backing band, the "Drifting Cowboys". He not only played in Hank Williams' earliest band, which he assisted Williams in forming, but he essentially helped to discover him in 1938. It was on Schuffert's WSFA radio show that Williams made his very first radio appearance. The pair co-wrote "Rocking Chair Daddy". Schuffert went on to issue a series of recordings under the name Braxton Shooford. He served as a pallbearer at Williams' funeral in 1953. The musician was heavily involved in preserving Williams' legacy, often performing at memorial events to honor his music. He spent his later years back in Prattville, a suburb of Montgomery, where he was recognized by the city for his work a few years before his death on April 26, 2013. Also, he had his own showcase at the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery. Braxton Schuffert often performed at the Hank Williams Museum in memory of his dear friend , Hank. All of his original compositions have been arranged, and printed in sheet music by his friend, Ginny Saltzman, and now are being offered as digital music, as well.
