Summer Sunday

Summer Sunday (Vocal Score). For Choral (SATB). Music Sales America. 20th Century, Pastoral, Choral. 84 pages. Novello & Co Ltd. #NOV200174. Published by Novello & Co Ltd. (HL.14032018).

ISBN 0853606250. 20th Century, Pastoral, Choral. 6.25x9.25 inches.

A challenging comical-tragical-ecological Pastoral for SATB and piano. Although this work has a serious message about the preservation of the countryside, it also has a great sense of fun which will be enjoyed by audiences and choirs alike. Indications like “solo” or “small group” should be distributed according to talents available and any solo which bears a “character-name” like “cow” or “crow” may be sung by any type of voice regardless of pitch.

    Cookham, Berks. England.
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 16, 2007 Summer Sunday, Golden Memories.

Commisioned by the Cookham Festival back in 1975, Cookham Choir received and learned each section as it was completed. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout, poigniant, yet forward thinking, this cantata of a day out in the countyside is a gem. With tunes ranging from a pastiche of Loch Lomond to the onomatopiac...

traffic jam sequence; the happy hens in the battery farm; the grace of the stately home to the exciting 'All The Lions', then finally returning home a la Gray's Elergy, we can all experience the joy of this splendid dig at a typically English day out in the car with the family. It's well worth learning and the audience should have a great time, too! Fun to sing. Fun to listen to.
