    A very interesting piece, incredible for its brilliance in the panorama of modern chamber music.Why they don't play this?Because it's too diffucult!,not only from a "technical" point of view...unfortunately Barber is a composer often forgotten by european musicians,except some rare case of gorgeous...

    Attempted this Samuel Barber piece with great expectations. Mistake! We have a talented amateur quintet but all felt that we probably do not have enough rehearsal (weekly) time to do it justice.

    This piece is quite difficult in terms of key signatures and keeping it together as a whole. The work is typical Barber; many lyrical passages with the oboe, complex rhythms with many technical passages. It is distinguished in woodwind quintet repertoire and is Barber's only work for woodwinds solely...

    . I recommend it for advanced musicians due to its difficulty. Overall, I believe it is a definite crowd-pleaser.

    I am a member of a high school ww quintet, and we have begun to study this piece. It is amazing, but very challenging. Our group is only begining to scratch the surface after about 1 month of rehearsals. Need to have amazing flutist and clarinetist, and horn player that...
