A wonderfully written dramatic piece of music... when played correctly, wins competitions

I love this piece. I really enjoy the drama and thus the opportunity to really focus on what the music means and how it tells a story.

The only thing hard about this piece is some higher positions and that students tend to rush other than that great piece to learn!

I played the Meditation piece by Bloch for viola, and I absolutely LOVED it. That turned me on to this piece. I loved Bloch's way of using the lower strings of the viola to give it this dark feel. Suite Hebraique is just as wonderful as Meditation. The Rapsodie...

has such smooth rhythms and large contrasts, it's fun to play. Then you get to the Processional, which has a more rougher tone to it. Last, the Affirmation, a somewhat bittersweet ending. I'm a high school student and I love playing this piece. There are so many chances to personalize it. It's also very challenging, for it uses the higher positions on the A string (for violas as well as violins). Great piece! Highly recommended for the advancing violists/violinist.

  • April 18, 2007 Suite Hebraique for viola with piano accompaniment

This is a beautiful piece capable of conveying a great range of emotions. It requires a lot of work to produce the quality of dynamics for which it is written, but the end product is very satisfying. It is a haunting and compelling piece, utilizing the viola to its fullest...

, and the piano accompaniment is equally compelling.
