I agree with the 1st reviewer. Great book for second-year strings, although the basic exercises using each rhythm based on the name of a pie can be used with students who are beginners. The songs based on each rhythm are in varying keys and get progressively more difficult as...

the rhythms get harder. I wish Sally O'Reilly would adapt her books for high school aged students. The concept is great and is a great way to teach orchestral bowings. I love her books!

First, please note that STRING RHYTHMS and FIDDLE RHYTHMS are the same book. I didn't realize that when purchasing them. They have different covers but are exactly the same on the inside. That said, these are great books for teaching young students different rhythms. They get a handle on...

the rhythm by saying a familiar word or series of words. You are able to teach the rhythm before the child might actually be able to recognize it in written form by using the word(s) with a standard starter song like "Twinkle, Twinkle". Though rated for beginners, students would have to be able to read music to start in the book, but as I said the concept can be used for simpler songs at the beginning level.
