String Festival Solos are economical collections of transcriptions by Samuel Applebaum. In two volumes for each instrument, the solos are in progressive order of difficulty. Each volume contains nine pieces -- all classic titles in the Applebaum teaching repertoire. Some of these have been hard to find. Volume I progresses from Level 1 to Level 2, Volume II progresses from Level 2 to Level 3. The solos are useful for teaching technique, dynamics, phrasing, and overall musicianship. String Festival Solos are excellent for recitals, auditions and performances for assemblies, concerts or festivals. Contains: Serenade (De Beriot) * To A Wild Rose (MacDowell) * A Graceful Waltz (Isaac) * Three Waltzes (Beyer) * Grandfather's Clock (Work) * The Country Fair (Gurlitt) * Sonatina in C (Viguerie) * Waves at Play (Streabbog) * Souvenir (Bloch).

  • October 28, 2005 Supplement for Applebaum String Builder

A companion to the first 2 books in Applebaum's String Builder series, this would be a nice supplement for most beginners. The main books’ footers list when to start each of these solos. This book begins halfway through the 1st String Builder, when you learn a simple quarter-note...

piece using fingers 1-3 on the D and A strings. It continues through about 2/3 of the 2nd String Builder. (A 2nd String Festival Solos book picks up there and covers through the end of the 3rd String Builder.) Develop your skills by playing longer pieces, each about a page long. Notation used is clearly and quickly explained. This book helps strengthen left-hand pizzicato, fourth finger, slurring over multiple notes, switching dynamics, and playing with a particular part of the bow. Contents: Serenade, To A Wild Rose, A Graceful Waltz, Three Waltzes, Grandfather’s Clock, The Country Fair, Sonatina in C, Waves at Play, Souvenir
