This incredible concerto is the summit of the horn literature. A fabulous piece, filled with High German Romanticism, was composed in 1942 by the famed Late Romantic master in his inimitable style. This deluxe edition includes the official Boosey & Hawkes music-book containing solo horn part as well as a separate piano reduction of the orchestral score; and a compact disc containing a complete version with soloist, recorded in digital stereo, followed by a second version in full stereo of the orchestral accompaniment, minus the soloist; and a second -20% slow-tempo version of the accompaniment for practice purposes. All recordings are indexed with track-breaks for easy practice and synchronization.

Performed by Ignat Verichkov, French horn

Accompaniment: Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra

Conductor: Nayden Todorov.

  • July 10, 2007 Great concerto. Good recording

This great concerto should need no introduction. Perhaps less popular than R. Strauss' first concerto, it is in my view a much richer and more satisfying work. I've had mixed results trying to play along to CDs of the piano part in the past. It's easy to get...

out of sync. This recording includes metronome like 'ticks' to help you keep time. Very useful. There is also a slow version to help learn the piece. Each movement is broken down into several tracks so you can practice in 'chunks'. All in all it's a very well thought out product. I've had problems with the sound quality with some of the older music-minus-one recordings, but quality here is fine. Well, I'll probably never get to play with a real orchestra. But in terms of an ego-trip, this has to be the next best thing!

  • May 05, 2006 Excellent product

Strauss' second horn concerto is arugably the greatest horn concerto ever writen and perhaps Strauss' best concerto. In any case, this is a highly ejoyable product! they worked out some of the kinks in the mozart MMO (such as the alternate tempi and giveing ample track numbers for rehersal). it...

also ballances nicely my only complaint is the soloist. while he pulls off the concerto technicly very well, the sound simply isn't great, especialy in the higher range. for a better idea of what it should sound like, pick up barry tuckwell or dennis brains takes on this masterpiece.
