Stranger on the Shore ((Alto Sax Feature)). Composed by Acker Bilk and Robert Mellin. Arranged by Peter Blair. For Jazz Ensemble. Easy Jazz Ensemble Series. Grade 2. Score and parts. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.7010565).

This beautiful pop ballad from the early 60's was recently recorded by Kenny G on his newest CD. This easy arrangement from Peter Blair features an alto sax soloist throughout. A terrific setting and all of the solo lines are completely written out.

  • June 01, 2011 great piece of music.

This is a nicely arranged chart for a beginning band, and the Alto Sax solo really stands out.

  • August 30, 2006 Music is not about the notes

Let's say that a saxophone player with no extreme liking for music picks up this piece and plays it. They play the notes exactly as writen. It probably will not sound like the best piece you ever heard, but like a beginner's piece. "Stranger on the Shore" is...

a piece based on expression and feeling. A great player would pick up the music, add grace notes and vibrato in it, and it can instantly turn from sounding like a beginner's excersize into a perfessinal sheet of music.

  • July 16, 2006 Not Good For Novice Player

This music is a very simple piece to actually play and a lot of beginning users dont understand its complexity. The notes and rhythms are simple enough but the piece is only beautiful when in the hands of truly talented musicians!!!

  • November 24, 2000 THIS STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid money for this hoping it would improve my skill! It's the easiest song I've ever seen besides "Hot Cross Buns".
