I like to use these two books when starting a beginning piano student. The songs are short and cover each new topic in depth. I've been using the Step books for over 20 years, and have never had a student not finish them and be able to move on...

    to more difficult music.

  • February 27, 2012 Great Book!

I am new to this course, but have been pleased so far. While it would be too slow for older beginners, I have found it useful for students who need extra review and slow-paced progress. I am currently using it on a 6-year old and 9-year old...

and they both love it. The songs are simple enough to master in a week and even memorize.

The step by step series is a great way to learn to play the piano. Our piano teacher has used this series for a long time and I can see why. It is well written and easy to follow.

  • January 29, 2008 Good childrens starter book..

My 9 year old step-daughter wanted to learn to play piano. We are working through this book and it is well written for the young learner. Interactive worksheets are very helpful..wish I would have had such a fun book when I was learning!

  • October 27, 2007 Best Notation Reader for Beginners

I have used the Step by Step method books for over 35 years and still have not ever found another method book to top the success that I've had with this series. Kudos to Edma Mae Burnam. All of my students are strong notation readers and within a few...

short weeks are truly independent pianists. I don't ever have to "show" my students where to put their hands or perform the piece for them first. I highly recommend this method book for teachers to use with all ages.
