Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most

Jazz ensemble; solo part provided for trombone or flugelhorn; optional 4th trombone - Medium
Composed by Landesman Wolf. Arranged by Frank Mantooth. Jazz Journey Series. Ballad. Score and set of parts. Duration 6 minutes, 25 seconds.

Item Number: KN.2120

Recorded by the Ashley Alexander Big Band in the early 1980's, this fabulous feature for solo trombone or flugelhorn consists of three distinct sections -- a slow ballad opening and closing with a fast swing interlude between. Each ballad segment ends with a solo cadenza, and an open section during the swing portion leaves room for other players to flex their solo chops. Rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. Duration 6:25.

This piece is a great chart. It works in any kind of combo setting, or as the full ensemble arrangement. It is a very powerful chart, opening with the melody in ballad form with the Mantooth touch (great piano accompaniment), and then, after a short cadenza, moving into an uptempo...

improv section. Sweet chart for the intermediate ensemble with a more advanced t-bone or trumpet player. Great arranging of a classic tune.
