Item Number: OU.9780193858268
ISBN 9780193858268. With vocal melody, lyrics and piano accompaniment. Classical Period and Opera. 9x12 inches.

Puccini's songs were written as occasional pieces: student works, contributions to periodicals, salon pieces for friends. Some passages pre-echo, or were borrowed for, his operas, and they throw fascinating light on his compositional development. The 15 songs are presented here with English translations, notes on chronology, and a detailed introduction. Most are suitable for either male or female performers.

  • April 29, 2012 Why I returned the Puccini songs

The Puccini songs are well-printed, easily readable, and attractively bound. They are unfortunately not particularly interesting musically, and are easier than the music I usually assign my high school students for their senior recitals. As such I found the volume not worth the $20+ investment. As I have been...

teaching for 42 years and have completed all requirements for a DMA in vocal performance and pedagogy, I applaud all efforts to expose students to less familiar work; this volume does not measure up to my requirements.
