Sensitive to the Brazilian soul and to the elements of our musical culture Mozart Camargo Guarnieri (1907-1993) was considered by Mário de Andrade to be his main disciple. Besides the operas Pedro Malasartes and Um homem só and the 50 Ponteios for chamber orchestra and piano, he composed...

more than 200 pieces for song and piano and 450 pieces for orchestra and mixed choir. He received numerous prizes in Brazil and abroad, amongst which the first prize from the Philadelphia Public Library for the Concerto for Violin and Piano (1942), the first prize given to Latin America in a contest run by RCA Victor and the Chamber Music Guild of Washington for the The String Quartet No.2; the second prize in the Henry H. Rheinhold Competition for the Symphony No. 2 (1948) and the first prize for the II Festival Interamericano de Caracas , with Choro for Piano and Orchestra (1957).
