Miklos Rozsa originally wrote the Sonata for two violins op. 15A in 1933, but the work was slightly revised twice until the 1973 version presented here. The work consists of three movements. Hungarian flair, typical of Rozsa's music, is most evident in the scherzo, which also functions as the finale. Although scored for only two violins, the work produces an impressive sonority, for it is music highly tailored for the violin. The dedicatees are Annette and Louis Kaufman. The former was a pianist, the latter a concertmaster with MGM's orchestra. In this capacity, he worked regularly with Rozsa."The sonata is fun to play and would be almost sight-readable for advanced students and professional players. The three movements have been beautifully laid out by Breitkopf - an attractive work worthy of inclusion in any chamber music program."
