  • April 04, 2009 A Phenomenal Urtext Edition

This edition is an Urtext edition; it provides us with exactly what Beethoven actually wrote: no more, no less. There are no editorial "additions" that fill in with someone else's opinions. The reader is assured that everything in the text is 100% Beethoven. The only drawback to this edition...

is that there is no fingering added. If one desires that fingering, the Henle Urtext provides similar accuracy with fingering. These editions, however, are MUCH less expensive than the Henle. I personally use this edition for all of my students. At all costs, avoid the other Schirmer edition by Bulow and Lebert. That edition makes so many changes to Beethoven's original that one can no longer tell what Beethoven wrote himself. This Urtext edition is vastly superior to the Bulow one.

  • January 25, 2007 Poor Binding

The binding on this edition is the worst of any set of piano scores I have ever owned. After only a few uses, my book actually broke in half. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

  • January 23, 2007 Get the Dover Edition

This edition is unpopular and more expensive than the Dover. My piano teacher, a college professor, would have you buy the Dover. (Editor's note - sku for Dover edition is AP.6-231348.)
