Flute and piano - Intermediate
For Flute and Piano. Composed by Frederic Glesser. With Standard notation. Falls House Press #FP-FG1. Published by Falls House Press (PR.FPFG1).
Item Number: PR.FPFG1
Glesser's Sonata uses the classic fast-slow-fast structure for its three separate movements. The first movement makes extensive use of quarter-tone pitches and harmonics in the flute part. The second movement shows Glesser's emphasis on pacing, with occasional long gaps between musical events. The third movement beautifully reflects the influence of some of the great twentieth-century masterworks for flute and piano (evoking Piston, Prokofiev, Poulenc, and Hindemith) and trios showcasing the flute (reminiscent of Debussy and Rorem). Sonata offers a wealth of exposure and opportunity for the intermediate player (both flute and piano) for intricate ensemble playing, alternate fingerings, challenging rhythmic gestures, and instrumental range. The advanced performer will also have the opportunity to demonstrate extensive technical and interpretive skills.
