  • March 31, 2014 Great solo!

As a sophomore looking to take trumpet playing to a professional level, this solo was almost eerily at my performance level. It most definitely brought out my weaknesses as it requires much mental concentration with the multiple tonguing and complex time meters. I performed the first movement only which is...

a very tiring movement. The range of movement I is written up to a high C at the very end. I received a superior at district and state solo and ensemble.

This solo is one of the greatest of the solos written for trumpet. If you are considering doing this plan on at least a year to prepare. This solo will really challenge players of any level. I would recommend this for college level players.

  • December 28, 2009 Loved this Peice

I absolutely love this piece. I'm a junior in high school and played this for an all new england audition and had a great time with the piece. It's far from easy technically with multiple meters interchanged constantly throughout the piece, a respectable range of notes, multiple tounging...

, and varied time signatures. I'd say the most important thing to remember while playing this piece though is to play it musically. There's a lot of contrasting moods in the piece and it's very lyrical. Personally that was my favorite part of the piece though. Although hard, this piece is certainly within the reach of high schoolers on up, I'd easily recommend this piece.

  • March 09, 2009 Great Piece!

I am a Sophomore and I also did the first movement for my district Solo and Ensemble contest. I got a superior and I am now going on to compete in our State Championships. I believe that this is a great piece. It requires a lot of endurance and absolute...

solid rhythm. The accompaniment is REALLY difficult so make sure you have a good one. This solo is about technique but also a lot about musicality. Make sure you make music and are not just playing the notes on the page. Overall a great piece, but a bit difficult for beginners and intermediate players. I would recommend this for trumpet players who can dedicate a lot of time fine tuning it and making sure the trumpet and the piano part fits together perfectly. it's really fun to play and judges love it when played well!!

  • February 23, 2009 Great Solo Piece!

This is a great piece, offering a challenge paired with musicality. It's one of the standards in the trumpet repertoire, and the reason why it is a standard is obvious after playing and performing it. I highly recommend this piece to anyone from a professional to an advanced high...

    school player.
