  • November 28, 2011 Henle delivers, but here is my request...

Musicians have come to trust Henle to provide scholarly editions of the classics, and I assume this one is meticulously researched, well-proofread, and accurate. However, this edition contains no notes on the process of its creation. What were the manuscripts or original previously published editions used as sources? What...

about inconsistencies in articulation markings whose deliberateness seems improbable? In such cases are the primary sources clear and well-corroborated? If anyone has the ear of people at Henle, please tell them that we would like some information beyond what we see in the score. Also, I would prefer that no fingerings be included that don't come from primary sources connected to Brahms. Another idea: put editors fingerings in erasable ink.

  • November 14, 2007 Be ready for this one!

I've played this piece (piano) with a cellist friend and it is VERY challenging both technically and musically. A sophisticated, mature piece that grows on you, but demands a secure technique and musicality. I heard a professional duo play it in concert and the pianist struggled mightily and I...

    could fully understand her troubles.
