Really I have not play this version, but as I look at the bokings make me doubt about it. I mean, the first movement is a piece that needs many expressive and legato intentions. So, in my opinion some original tie are cut. Well, once you have played with some...

other bowings you are gonna like it. It is more about your musicality, or the way you look at the piece( expressions, alleged author's feelings, etc.)

  • November 25, 2010 excellent music excellent edition

A well printed and thought-out version of this famous piece. The notation is clear and easy to read with sprinklings of key fingerings. The piece contains some very futuristic harmonies that must have been very surprising to the original audience as it sounds unusual even today (1st movement bars...

114-125 includes alternating D flat 7 and F major chords!! ). Strangely the first movement always sounds a little directionless near the end. Brahms favourite musical device of having duple and triplet rhythms occurring simultaneously happens in the third movement and unfortunately the pianist has to do it. It is a great piece to let fly and give it everything you’ve got. Suitable to intermediate-advanced players and above.

  • October 17, 2010 Best Sonata ever

This is a beautiful piece. All three movements high in demand but the payoff of performing this successfully is amazing. It also makes a very good piece for Tenor or Bass trombone. James Markey, New York Philharmonic Bass Trombonist recorded this piece on his album "On Base." It was one...

of the most beautiful recordings i have ever heard.

  • April 24, 2009 Standard advanced recital repertoire

The third movement is one of Brahms' most interesting fugues. This is equally demanding of both cellist and pianist. Good study/performing edition with plenty of space for bowings and fingerings.

  • November 16, 2008 good edition

This is a very good edition which the cello teacher asked us to purchase. The only complaint is that it's quite expensive.
