They are good. However I would have liked to know ahead of ordering that they are arrangements of solos from classical works. The Adagio is a horn solo froma a quintet which has been enlarged. I thought I was going to get original solos for bassoon.

  • January 13, 2008 Great piece of music: Solos for the Bassoon Player

I love the collection of music compiled in Solos for the Bassoon Player! I have a middle school student who has only been playing for about 8 months, and she is able to take one of these pieces to solo & ensemble contest. There are also a number of pieces in...

here that she will be able to grow with as she proceeds through high school.

  • August 24, 2007 A Necessity for Beginning High School Bassoonists

This anthology is a necessity for any bassoonist, especially a young beginner, if only for the Sorcerer's Apprentice alone. The Apprentice is the most diffinitive and recogonizable piece that characterizes the bassoon, featured in Disney's original Fantasia, and again reprised in Fantasia 2000. Other incredible songs include Bach...

Bourree I & II, and Leonard Bernstein's "Cool" featured in West Side Story. Many of these solos are featured in the NYSSMA Manual, levels 3 and 4.
