Solo piano - SMP Level 9 (Advanced); NFMC Level: Very Difficult Class 1
Composed by Scott Joplin (1868-1917). Masterworks; Piano Solo; Solo. Alfred Masterworks Editions. Late Intermediate level piece for the Piano Solo event with the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) Festivals Bulletin 2008-2009-2010. Ragtime. Single. Standard notation, fingerings and introductory text (does not include words to the songs). 7 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.19781).

Item Number: AP.19781
ISBN 0739017195. With standard notation, fingerings and introductory text (does not include words to the songs). Ragtime. 9x12 inches.

This is Scott Joplin's famous ragtime serenade which was featured in the film "The Sting." The melodies are haunting and a bit melancholy. The tango rhythm in the left hand is overlaid by the right hand's ragtime syncopation, often in complex rhythms, and in "very slow march time." The right hand is required to play filled-out octave chords in some sections, and the left hand sometimes covers a wide range in "stride" styling. Keys of C Major and F Major. A Federation Festivals 2014-2016 selection.
List/syllabus: Federation Festivals 2014-2016.

The sheet music came quickly and is a very good quality product. I got to work sooner than expected on the fingering for a friend and delivered it to him that Sat. I see Sheet Music Plus as a great resource and will continue to use them in the future...

  • March 20, 2007 Beautiful melancholy.....

Oh, this lovely "march" (?) I have had such fun working on it, even the challenging parts. Anyone listening in to the practice has loved it too! What IS it about Joplin's music that tugs at your heart strings?
