Choral (SATB DV A Cappella) - Difficulty: medium
SATB. Composed by Eric Whitacre (1970-). Walton Choral. Choral. Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Walton Music #WJMS1035. Published by Walton Music (HL.8501462).

Item Number: HL.8501462

From the composer of the much performed Cloudburst, here is a new collaboration between Eric Whitacre and poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, drawing on the mystical moment between awareness and sleep. While the voice range is accessible, Sleep requires a big enough choir to handle the divisi passages. First premiered at the 2001 ACDA National Convention by the Concordia College Choir, Rene Clausen conductor.

Full of dissonance, but that's what makes it so interesting. Very moving story of how the piece came about on the inside front page.

This piece literally has a profound effect on the body. Even after the piece was over, I still heard the chords ringing in my ears. Several people in the audience (including myself)needed tissues. I can't even think of a sentence to describe the works of Eric Whitacre. He...

is much more than a composer. I do not know much about choir, however you need a very advanced or professional choir to do this. This is one of the most beautiful and haunting pieces I have ever heard and it might even change your life.

This piece is one of the best examples of perfect chord progressions. The tenor and bass voices are simply stunning, and the alto and soprano parts tie the rest of the theme together beautifully. Though it takes a lot of talent to perform it, it is simply extraordinary.

The VERY FIRST time I ever laid eyes AND ears on this song, I was absolutely stunned!! It is SO beautiful and you really do need a VERY strong choir to sing this song. I was very fortunate enough to sing this song at Spivey Hall @ Clayton State Univ. for...

the High School Honor Choir (made up of about 120 kids from about 50 different high, private, and home schools. But THIS SONG TOTALLY CRACKS THE TOP 5 BEST CHORAL PIECES EVER WRITTEN, IF NOT NO.1!!!
