  • May 20, 2008 Brilliant!

Some books you play a couple of times and put on the shelf, while some you can play every day and find something new every time. This book is of the latter kind. I have played one of these suites every day on one of my various saxophones (SATB)for...

years. The suites sound great on all of them, such great music, so well transcribed and laid out. They are also a good technical workout, utilizing the full range of the instrument with varying tempos. the only thing I would take issue with is the transcription of the sixth suite into the altissimo range, well out of the practical range for a limited player like myself (altissimo Bb?? please!). Still so much fantastic music here that I can't dock the book. Enjoy!

  • July 24, 2007 The joy of solo palying

These works are among the pinacle of solo playing. As most musician practice alone, it is fantastic to be able to play these masterpieces, designed for 1 instrument. The transcription is flawless. Although a few tips on alternate fingering in altissimo register would have been nice. I expect to play...

these for the rest of my life.

  • March 30, 2007 Perhaps the greatest Bach available for Sax?

I say yes to everything the other reviews say about this music. I can only add that the power and expressiveness of Bach's musical line is truly amazing. I find some of the opening Preludes to be technically the most challenging, especially the first one which by the end...

has one playing wide leaps to the top end of the horn in driving rhythm. Wow! It's pretty much beyond my ability to execute this musically. Remember that professional cellists spend a lifetime studying and mastering this music! But even for my average ability there is so much music here that can benefit the player as exercise and as music. This arrangement for the saxophone is expertly done and beautifully printed.
