This edition of the Sonatinas, Op. 36 is based on the first printing, published by Clementi himself. In addition to Clementi's own articulations, fingerings and ornaments presented in dark print, additional performance suggestions by Dr. Palmer appear in light gray print. These guidelines were drawn from Clementi's companion work, Introduction to the Art of Playing on the Pianoforte, first published in 1801.

This title has selections that range in difficulty from SMP Level 3-6.

Almost every other edition of the sonatinas has editing that contradicts the composer's original intentions. This edition clearly shows the original text with the editor's suggestions in grey print. Those suggestions are based on Clementi's own directions in "The Art of Playing the Pianoforte." Having this edition...

reveals just how much "doctoring" the other editors have done, putting staccatos where they do not belong, etc. This is the most reliable text available on the market.

I didn't like this edition. Too spread out so that what should be 3 pages was 7 pages of turning with too many notes/distractions. Did not like the fingering suggestions, prefered my teacher's edition edited by Alan Small. I probably should return it.

Always useful in building a young technique. Fun for the student; makes a young person feel as if they are playing a "big" piece, while unconciously learning form, rhythm and scales!

Be warned that this edition has the irritating "interpretive" versions printed in gray above the score. I don't know about you, but this format drives me nuts bcs it's so busy." If you don't want gray, look at the Kjos.
