    Difficulty Level:
  • June 23, 2011 6 Sonatas by Handel

The 6 violin sonatas by G.F. Handel edited by Betti has a terrible realization in the piano.I never use it but rather the Intern'l edition edited by Francescatti.

My daughter is learning these pieces and they are helping to refine her technique--I enjoy listening to them.

    Difficulty Level:
  • June 20, 2007 baroque bowings

This book can be distracting for players. Many violin teachers will tell you to buy a more expensive edition witout bowing markings. Bowing markings usually were NOT present in baroque music.I am teaching my students this piece without the bowings first, then adding them later. Bowings and fingerings are...

dependent on the era the music was written, influenced by the edition of the music, by teachers, personal preference and musical interpretation. Players will change bowings and fingerings in many pieces they play. This book is fine for those who understand the bowings, are willing to learn, or can ignore them and add them later. I suggest photocopying the music and whiting out the bowings until you learn the piece well enough without them. Then add bowings with the help of your teacher or go back and use the book.

    Difficulty Level:
  • February 16, 2004 solo styles

I am playing sonata III from this book and my friend is playing the same solo from suzuki VI and the bowings in her suzuki book are a lot easier, but the way my book has the bowings make the piece prettier, but some of the fingerings are a little...

bit wierd and would be easier in a different postion, like at the spiccatto part in the allegro after the first repeat would be a lot easier if it started in 2nd position and then went to third and then back to 1st for the A strain of spiccatto on the E string. but overall it's o.k.
