Choir Sacred (3-Part Mixed Choir (SAB)) - Grade 2
Based upon "Largo" from Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvorák, and "Silent Night, Holy Night". Composed by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse. Choral (Sacred); Choral Octavo; Worship Resources. Alfred Archive Edition: Alfred Church Choral Series. Christmas; Sacred; Winter. Choral Octavo. 8 pages. Published by Jubilate Music Group (AP.22782).

Item Number: AP.22782

Psalm 96, Isaiah 9:2-7, Luke 2:1-20, Titus 2:11-14.

Awe-inspiring! Above the slow opening strains of Dvorak's "Largo" from his "New World Symphony," we hear the Christmas narrative: "For unto us a Child is born." After a dramatic pause, the flowing accompaniment signals the choral response: "Silent night, holy night," sung to Dvorak's melody, a brilliant pairing of text and melody. As the rapture continues, the choir and accompaniment swell, proclaiming, "We reflect God's true light on this Christmas morn." We give this our highest recommendation for worship and seasonal concerts! Suggested scriptures: Psalm 96, Isaiah 9: 2-7, Luke 2: 1-20, Titus 2: 11-14.

Our small church choir started our Christmas eve service with this piece. Although our choir is relatively inexperienced (our men are not used to singing parts), we did a good job with it and managed to set the stage for the service. Even though the piece was fairly easy for...

us to learn, it is so beautiful that even advanced choirs should not pass it up.

As a fan of the orchestral "New World Symphony", I was excited to use this piece in our upcoming Christmas program--words are also very fitting!

An unique twist by using familiar words and songs in a different way than expected.

A small group of women singers prepared this song for Christmas morning at our small country church last year. It was excellent!
